Sounds like it might work in theory. What do you guys think?

"Just a little tip for getting un stuck with your open diffs.As every one knows when you are bogged with open diffs ,the wheel with the least amount of traction will spin and you go no where at all.Well this little mod might just get you out and going again without getting the recovery dirty.(well we hope so any way)

Well the solution is fairly easy ,1st thing to do is set your left and right rear wheel up with a seperate hand brake each.So you can apply the hand brake to just the left wheel or right wheel.The trick here is very simple, if you loose traction to say the right hand rear wheel you just apply the right hand brake .This will lock up the spinning wheel and give power to the left wheel.And away you go .You only apply the brake for a few seconds ,on the off again .You keep doing this until your out of trouble.

This is a fairly simple mod to do .And you will be suprised how well it will get you going again .Give it a go . "

That's all the new off road vehicles do (eg. Audi Touareg- however it's spelt) you see them lift a wheel and a computer kicks in and applies the brake to that wheel, so the other side gets more drive.

I don't fancy mucking around with the hand brake though- it performs an important function and if you stuff it up so it's not as effective.....

Firstly congrats on the new truck and especially the bun in the oven.

As for the traction aid you mentioned, I read on 4WD monthly once an article on this. They do that kind of thing with the competition trucks in europe which they use in the French alps.

I guess it would and does work, but you would probably need two brains and four arms to operate such a monster.

I remember the picture on the mag, levers everywhere!

Firstly, congrats on the bun Paul. Dunno about the new "Balls" though

Anyway, you'll find that if you're losing traction on a rear wheel, just pull the handbrake on gently and you'll normally find that it transfers enough torque to the wheel with traction to get you going again...works for me.

I have no intention on doing this. I have enough trouble just steering and braking at the same time let alone adding more levers into the equation. But it sounded interesting enough....

I think the poms call this a fiddle brake system. Fairly obvious, with the amount of fiddling that would be going on. I saw that article on the European comp cars. In that article, they also claimed you couldnt raise a Nissan or Toyota more than a couple of inches. Way way back, I remember reading something similar, but this involved getting under your 4wd when its stuck, and adjusting your brake shoes on the wheel thats spinning freely so it doesnt spin anymore. Then all the drive would be applied to the wheel that is stuck. Lovely in the mud. I think an easier answer is

Nah the best is to get Bundy Rumand Coke to do the pushing and shoving for u when the rig gets stuck in the mud.

Hey talking about this i noticed that HUMMER drivers are thought about "brake modulation" thingy where they basically left foot brake and accelerate gently in order to make their Torsen diffs tighten up so that they can get unstuck.
anyone have more info on this?

Sounds typically English to me.....make something that's nice and simple into a whole trainspotter kind of experience......

If ya stuck, just pull the handbrake up a coupla notches and see what I mean Works for me, AND it's got me places where lockers and traction control were doin' there stuff.

I think the handbrake trick only works with LSD - it certainly works with mine. If AJFeroza doesn't have a rear LSD then that sinks that argument.
