Hi Guys,
Anyone used this oil in there GQ Diesel. I used it because it was Penrite's suggested oil for this engine, but have since noticed that everyone else seems to use a 15W-40, where HPR Diesel is a 20W-60.
Am I using too high a grade oil?
Penrite does a Light Diesel which is 15W-40, but it states that the oil is for more modern diesel engines.

G'day Andrew,
For roughly 2 years I used Penrite 15w-40 in my old GQ diesel, never missed a beat, never used oil when running Penrite 15w-40. However I did try Pennzoil and during my service internval had to throw another 2-3 litres of top up oil in it. I was under the impression the 20w-60 was for turbo applications, but I can be corrected.
Regards,
Jimbo

Possibly, the Penrite website states its for both turbo and Non Turbo.
I just find it strange that they recommend a 20W-60 for my car, whereas other oil co's suggest a 15W-40

I use the penrite diesel 20-60 in both my rigs nissan td42 and toy 2L, a good oil at a premium price though, even bulk it doesn't seem cheaper. Both motors are in good cond so oil consumption is hard to measure. Is reassuring to know that each oil change it gets a premium oil for lube. When you find a good oil, stick to it, as some oils when mixed may produce sludge if brands are changed often.

With these engines holding close to 11 Litres you have no other choice than to buy in bulk
The 20L drum wouldn't even cover 2 oil changes.
Good to know that someone else is using it, I was just getting a little worried that I had put the wrong oil in it.

Gotta say, I love the oil changes on the hilux better than the mav. 1 Z9 filter, 5 litres and all done. Mav, 2 Z115 filters, 11 litres done. Used to buy the oil in the 10 litre plastic drum with a 5L for topup and emergency, then tried the 20L steel drum. Going back to the plastic drum, as I can fit the placcy drum under the truck with a large funnel under, once drained then cap on and ready for the tip or 'recycle station'. Never could get the last bit out of the steel drum, and can't afford a 200L drum and hand pump to make it really cost effective. Funny enough, it's cheaper to buy 2 5L than 1 10L with the prices around here.
