General clutch question

My girl just had her car serviced this week, just a 70k standard service.

The bloke indicated to her that the clucth needs replacing, and he quoted $800 to do so.

I was surprised by this as there are no noticable problems with the clutch.

It is my understanding (limited admittedly) that if the clutch engages and disengages without any problems and there is no slipping, it is fine ?

The car drives fine, and stalls immediately if I try to take off in 4th gear.

Am I missing something ??

The car is a Kia Rio, if that makes any difference.

Cheers

he could be very familiar with her model car?
Ie; The pick-up point on the pedal could indicate a worn plate?
I towed a customers car with a dead clutch recently.
At his last service, his mechanic advised him the clutch will need looking at & he would be lucky if it lasted till the next service??

it didn't !

Then again, there are mechanics and then there are mechanics.

if it aint broke, dont fix it.....

Unless you are driving some where remote, but i doubt it in that car..

It may be worn but if it isn't slipping and is how you described it, just drive it till it starts slipping then worry. You will be wasting money for nothing.

Just my opinion
