which gearbox better

I have just built a winch challenge truck, http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic160661-0-asc-30.php well almost ready for winching, but I have done a couple of speed events (cooper rally) and have got the bug for speed.
I have done a clutch in the thing which was a excedy sarfri tuff, but after a few events and driving on the road for 5 months it is stuffed, so before I get the advice on what clutch to go, was wondering if a worked auto would be better in the long run...at least then on the speed events I could stay in 3rd gear and not 2nd.
I have 4.11 gear ratio too.
