clutch getting slicky, think it heat related..(updated)

hi lads
ok some info,
iv got a slightly worked 5.0l in my GU with HSV headers and a 3 inch exhaust.
running standed nissan 5 speed with TB45 slave and master cylinder.
now i only live 5 mins from work so i dont experience this all the time, but after lots of stop start traffic and long drives the clutch pedal goes from being smooth to jerky/sticky and hence makes gear changes(mainly from stopped to takingof in first gear) abit awkward!
now im assuming this is becasue the the headers merge right next to(im talking 20mm away) from the slave cylinder and thus producing to much heat for it to operate/work correctly..?
has anyone else had this problem?
i probably should have made a heat shield to start with but i got lazy and didnt think it would be an issue..
might make one tomorrow but would be good to know if it will fix the problem
thanks
