Nick, Hazard also fitted a VH45, his didnt have enough power so he wacked a couple of turbo's on it. Hazard from memory also ran the std infinity auto, he used the output bits from a GQ auto which bolt straight on to the back of the infinity auto. This mated it upto the transfercase with no other mods.

Kyle was just looking at pics of your old shorty. The aircleaner you had could that have been mounted the other way around so the inlet could be plumbed into a std snorkel (safari type). Also do you think the safari snorkle would flow enough air.

As if I do this, the current fact aircleaner would get the boot. And since I already have a snorkle would like to keep it. If it doesnt flow enough I would then just get a snokle like Drafty's ute (cos I will already have the hole in the guard).

We used that aircleaner cos it was the highest flowing unit we could find. Surprisingly expensive though!
We also mounted it that was as it gave the smoothest air path.
A safari snorkel is definately not large enough. We made up a stainless steel 4" snorkel which worked really well.

Nick,
As you probably gathered Sandy and I did the conversion on my old shorty with a 5spd. Feel free to email me at kyle @ ontrack.org.au

Any progress here?

I have some interest in squeezing one of these into the Maverick and would welcome more info.

Don't want no steenkin' automatic transmission though.

I put some basic Infiniti info up. I am moving the workshop to Brisbane so I haven't got too much time to work on the site...

When I reopen I should have the CNC plasma and CNC upgrade for the mill running so I should be able to do a manual gearbox conversion kit soon...

You're moving the whole workshop up here just to convert my Maverick for me?

Man, you shouldn't have. I appreciate it, but it's almost too much!

Ptrool is making nasty noises out of either the V8 or the box... He is yet to rip it out and down.. the clutch has gone forsure, but isnt sure what else the noise could be.

Im still interested in what happened to it after kyle sold it.

So you know who owns it now or are you just talking crap???

There's a massive amount of power out of that engine - I seriously doubt that any of the conversion failed - I saw that being made and thats one TOUGH Bellhousing setup.

Clutch would be right though...

I fitted a supra 5-speed to my XJ-S (few years ago now) and had a custom-made clutch in it. I was later able to replace this with a clutch from a daihatsu truck, believe it or not; I think that was 10.5" instead of 11" or something, but still worked fine... but anyway.

This custom clutch shit itself one morning on the way to work and it was pretty spectacular. It shattered, and where it finished up was, big pieces of friction material fell off and got stuck between the flywheel and bits of friction material that hadn't fallen off.

Effectively it meant that the clutch wouldn't disengage, but at the same time it was all wonky and made the most godawful noise and vibration.

So, the only point of this anecdote is that a dead friction plate can make some pretty nasty symptoms while in fact not being a very serious problem.

I sold that car last year after I bought my first fourby. I had grown tired of it and it was pretty expensive to keep in running order.

But the V12 with the supra box behind it... it was certainly quick. Independent suspension on all four corners, it handled beautifully too. 300hp from a stock motor...

Ah, nostalgia.

Anyway, yeah. Clutch could be it. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what clutch was used?

Clutch was custom built one. Built for big HP - that would be the weakest link - Considering the rest of the conversino was built tough!
