with 35's on, no intercooling or turbo and just an exhaust (assuming it's a good 3" mandrel bent system incl dump pipe..........
absolute max I'd say 80kw @4wheels and that would be pushing too much fuel to be really safe.
If you really want power you need to intercool.
End of the day, those 35's are always going to demolish your power gains.
For example, boss's GU ute with 17" mickey thompsons and 35" ATZ's made about the 110kw mark but as soon as we put standard wheels and tyres back on, it shot to just over 150.
Another GU ute, after fitting MB Diesel water to air intercooler kit, intake plenum, exhaust, air filter and Garrett BB turbo made an 80% gain in power and torque after tuning. Running 12psi without EGT's passing 500.
Still only had less than 100kw @ 4 wheels running 35" MTZ's on 16" rims

Well actual power figures are tricky because they can vary so much because of tune, general condition, size of tyres etc but percentages are much easier to talk with.bobbyjane wrote:i was thinking about water to air intercooler and high flow turbo
does any one know what sort of power i would be able to obtain and is is worth spending the money
Read my previous post in this thread and there are a few examples.
We've had several Patrols post 200+HP runs from TD42's with our exhaust, turbo and water to air intercooler kits. Even still had acceptable EGT's.
the exhaust, intercooler kit, intake plenum, BB turbo upgrade and a good tune weigh in at around the $7500-8000 mark for everything fitted and tuned and we get anywhere from 60% to 110% increases.
If you are interested and in SEQ give me a call at Northside 4x4. Matt.

Any competent workshop or even someone handy with tools can fit these and as long as you have a good tuner with a 4WD dyno you should be able to just buy the parts.
End of the day, you need to ask yourself, "how much power and torque do I really want and am I willing to pay good money for it?"
We have a lot of guys who save the $3K from the turbo upgrade and still get great gains. If you were going to intercool or turbo, I'd go intercooler every time and they are the guys that get the bigger but most importantly safer tuned numbers over the turbo swap guys.
Also to avoid confusion, these are custom made turbos based on Garret GT2860RS Ball Bearing turbos that we get made for us with custom housings. Not high flow factory turbos. Big difference.
The intercooler kits are built here in Australia in our workshop using CNC or laser cut end tanks and PWR radiators, Aus made pumps, quality fittings and plumbing and custom made intake plenums that are sold on an exchange only basis. They are designed and built to suit different engines and vehicles specifically. We make them for many different vehicles but for the GU you will need to order a different kit for factory intercooled or non intercooled variants and yes we delete the EGR system.
Hope that helps you. In short, getting a 40% power and torque gain is easy and not that expensive. You can potentially more than double your standard power output at the wheels but for a good water to air intercooler and a highflow turbo, tuned well, I'd suggest that 50% is quite achievable including exhaust and intake.
Power made really boils down to money spent. Reliably with what you have I wouldn't aim any higher than 80/85rwkw. Tyres sap a lot of power out of the driveline. Fit an egt guage and monitor them.
