Diff Pinion Bearing Issues

Hey guys.

Am having an issue with the rear diff pinion bearing in my 75 series ute. I replaced it middle of May this year and it's flogged out already. Diff has rear locker but hasn't been used due to leaking seals, car is daily driven (when not broken), highway mainly, and taken out every second weekend or so, nothing ridiculously harsh. I think the tailshaft "may" be an extended one, which I have been told can increase the pressure put on the pinion bearing which could be the cause of it flogging out.

Can anyone confirm this for me, or give me an idea what a possible issue maybe?

Thanks in advance.

Are you just replacing the outer bearing? Could be the inner bearing that is suss.

Are you torqueing the bearing up to the correct torque and procedure? new crush sleeve etc?

start with the easiest thing first mate and blow out and check your diff breather for blockages, then grab the flange and see if there is excessive play in the pinion that may be causing the seal to flog out and go from there.

the shaft should't be the problem, most likely not set up properly or the collapsable spacer is slowly crushing... might have been the problem and reused when new bearings installed...(as said above)

Either way a solid pinion spacer is your best chance to have the pinion bearings last....

Though this usually happens under alot of load... so mmm not sure

Prob does not help :)

Diff was rebuilt by a reputable company here on the coast. I have just replaced the breathers with some new trailgear items so can't rule that out. Tailshaft is near impossible to put on when the car is on the hoist, car has to be on the ground and the diff under load to be able to bolt tailshaft up.

do you mean there is no travel in the slip yoke and it has bottomed out?

or what do you mean near impossible to get on, should be nice and easy???
