rear brake thingo on hilux

I am currently building a 87 hilux and at the moment am working on the chassis giving it a de rust and repaint. Looking at the braking system there is a thingo attached to the chassis with brake lines connected to it and some arm that runs to the read diff..... Any one know what the F it does it do and do i need it?

Its for the rear proportioning valve, alters brake bias depending on loads on the tray etc.

depends, do you want your brakes to work when you have a load on the back? or do you want them to lock up as soon as you hit the brakes when you have no load on the back?
id sugest you need it

It's not really going to have anything other then a KTM on the back and wouldn't lift throw it out anyway????

it is a brake proportioning valve as said, where the rod comes out and bolts onto your diff (there is 2 bolts LHS) is where it needs to be lifted...
Eg, 2" lift there needs to be a adaptor to lengthen the 'flat bar' and extend the rod further up.
4" lift needs a 4" extension..
Trust me you need it, its your brakes you are talking about....
Do you think toyota would go to all the effort in designing something the is not needed and should be thrown away.. Up to you...

well after having a look i have decided that ( apart from the safety ) its just as easy to keep it and make it work with the lift...
