Hey.
Noticed a few weeks ago that my 1hz backfired. I was driving in soft sand for a while and the engine was under some load, i had to stop for a min to let all the other people exit off the beach. It was idling for a minute then i took off in 1st low range and it back fired in high revs, then shot out jets of smoke as it backfired. It did it again today after a bit of a flogging, this time wasnt as bad but it sort of misses???
1hz with 170k on the clock, 79 series cruiser.
Cheers

while it's not totally absolutely impossible. I'd be surprised if his 1hz diesel engine had a cat converter.

If they did,(put a cat behind a z) there would be one loud bang followed by a loud noise...a z would block it pretty fast.....
The only thing i can think of is a dribbling injecter igniting on inlet, explains the miss...fix it fast

Yeha, injectors might be needing a reco.
Is that normal after 170k? depends on how they were looked after i suppose..
I cleaned up the air filter, runs alot more free now, but im not sure that is the issue totally.
