T-case differences

Just wondering if a transfer case from a SD33T tranny would fit onto a RD28T tranny and vice versa. I know the SD33 unit has the offset output. I think about replacing my RD28T with a SD33T + matching tranny and bolt the RD28T t-case behind it to keep my centered diff and the old drive shaft. The front motor mounts are the same, only the tranny crossmember has to be modified and the radiator has to be fitted from a GQ with offset in-/outlet. The whole thing would be converted to 12V using IHC Scout parts.

I'm pretty sure the splines would be different, you could use the sd33 t/case and get an offset diff housing? Or maybe get an adaptor/bellhousing to fit the sd33t to your existing box, that may be easier than swapping t/cases
Why not get hold of a td42 with box and tcase?

Well, the problem is that the rear axle in the european 260 MQ/MK is located 3cm further back than the japanese one. Finding a TD42 box is very close to impossible on the side of the world where the TD42 was never sold. As I discovered, the TD42 t-case and the RD28 t-case are the same anyway.
My plan was to convert my Patrol from the lousy RD28T to the SD33T without rewelding the frame crossmembers and changing the rear axle etc..

Well i've got a feeling that screwy looked at fitting a 5spd from the gq (which came with td42, rd28t etc in oz) to a mq offset transfer case and found it wouldn't fit.
This means that the gearbox from the sd33t won't fit your t/case.
So i guess the most likely option would be to see if the sd will bolt to your belhousing or wether the sd bellhousing will bold to your gearbox, if not an adaptor could surely be made?
As far as crossmember go i figure that the sd33t and rd28t should be similar in length so it shouldn't present too many dramas.

Here is a suggestion Bart....

Dump the whole truck and get another 83 MQ with a SD33T!! :P

Seriously though....why not just find a rotted out mid-80's MK and use the SD33T, 5spd and diffs from it?? I would think in parts of Germany rust and rot would be a major problem thus killing a MK before it's time. Meaning you may get the whole lot for fairly cheap if you bought the whole rusty truck. By selling your existing stuff it could pay for it's self....
