i should hopfully be pulling mt td 42 outa my new wreck today and want to pull the whole lot out in one go, i have already cut the radiator support out but just want to know how i will go with the gearstick and t fer stick, do i unbolt them off the box or will it drop low enough? also do i just run a trolley jack under the transfer to stop it from dropping, as in keep it balanced
cheers waandy

When we did Damiges GQ recently, we did them in 2 parts -engine then box. same when we put back together..
we tried doing all at once, but was a nightmare.

How many people will you have helping you?

we just did an engine conversion from RB30 to TD42 and we pulled the engine and box out in one piece, pulled the transfer and gearbox levers out and it came out fine even with the radiator support panel in place..

this was done with two people, 1 driving the forklift and one man handling the motor and box, it is all about positioning the sling in the right place to get the best angle

i will be using an engine crane and will have at least 1 more mate (more will rock up as usual though) think this would be easier as i have no hoist and dont want to try balance a gearbox and transfer on a trolley jack

When i went to pull mine out i pulled just the motor instead of pulling both at once. Was goin to pull both but found that it would have been way to heavy for the engine crane and also had trouble getting the crane high enough to just pull the motor. If you had a balance beem and a block n tackle it would make it heaps easier doing both at once.

Mate unless you have a super doper heavy duty engine crane your dreaming! The Td42 by its self weighs almost 500kgs the box is probably another 250-350kgs just take the motor out and then the gear box. Its not that hard a job you just need the right tools and equipment and patients to do the job properly and not rush it..........'taking the whole lot out in on go' or you'll end up breaking somthing or someone!

just get some steel and make a cradle up to hold the gearbox, do it so that the cradle has a pin at the bottom to fit into the trolley jack where the round plate normally sits - most decent trolley jack you can pull the plate out - if its only a little trolley jack it probably isn't a good idea.
