You will have viabration issues.. 6inch on shortys is silly... unless your tryin to run 40's

gonna run 36" tyres. dont want any body lift! what size lift would be acceptable?
will i need cardinal joint at both ends of the rear tail shaft because of the severe angle? and transmission spacers??

You can get away with as little as 2" suspension lift to run 35-36" tyres - it will just require some smoothing of the guards.

There is no cheap or easy way to do a big lift on a SWB, anything over 3" will require a full kit.

Parts needed (feel free to add on guys):

- Shocks
- Springs
- Adjustable panhards (F&R)
- Adjustable upper and lower rear arms
- Front castor correction by arms, boxes or plates
- Swaybar extensions
- Possibly bumpstops
- Transmission spacers
- Flip tailshaft (rear i think)
- Possibly double cardin joints if angles are that bad.
- Full exo cage for the rollovers

The lower the better.

Do you have the 36" tyres yet, or are they on the shopping list?

agreed you really dont need to go anywhere near that high of a lift to run 36"...

coxy had it almost spot on with the list he gave tho .....

keep it as low as you can .. to fit the desired tyres i would go no more than 3" saves driveline hassles ...

just touch up the guards, front wont be an issue on 3" provided it IS a tru 3" lift

You wont need the 6 inch lift for 36's, however, if that's what you would like to run, go with what you want to do.

IMO

I'd look to getting a three or four inch lift (If it was me, go for 4), and then chopping the guards out, spacing your front control arms, and then some long travel shocks.

Within the next few months you will find the lift will settle in, and the car will drop in height. And you might just get away with spacing the gearbox down, and running all your stock upper arms, but I would look to getting some stronger lower rear arms. From what i've read and web wheeled, anything in or around the 4 inch lift is going to require castor correction, on the front end.

But its up to you. If you want to buy a big lift, then go for it, however, i would sorta say, best to start in the middle, and then adjust your lift from there.

I have 4/5 inch lift in mine, and im looking to loose about 2 inchs of it. Once i get home, i'll be taking the grinder to the arches.

i ran a tough dog 5in in my old shorty,
5in springs
5in shocks
drop boxes
panhards f&r
upper adjustable arms
lower longer arms
double cardin joint at top of tailshaft (still had vibs)
gearbox spaced down 12mm
quick discounect sway bars

it was a very rolly car off road always getting wheels up
i currently run 3in now and its amazing how much more stable it is both cars were running 35"

mate i would just run a 3in or maybe a 4in and massage the guards and bar it up it would be a little cheaper and alot more nicer to drive
thats imo

ok so 4" sounds good, will i need driveline mods with 4" 35's
I will need,
1. springs
2. shocks
3. Adjustable panhards (F&R)
These are the obvios things.
extras?
-longer lower arms?
-upper arms?
-drop boxes??
-tailshaft mods??
-sway bars??

yes
upper arms adjustable
lower arms longer 10 or maybe 15
longer brake lines
drop boxes or arms (you could get away with castor bushes and arm spaces)
steerong dampener
gearbox spacers 10mm or 12mm
then just play with the upper arms till your happy with the tailshaft but
every shorty is different with the vibs so you made need to do something to the tailshaft or it may be fine

Sounds about right.

But it depends on how you get your 4 inchs doesnt it

If you go two inch spring lift, and 2 inch body, and long travel shocks, you will save a packet. Cost will be some rear end travel and drop.

If your doing a 4 inch lift on SWB you need 3 inch coils as this will give you 4 to 4.5 lift, if you get 4 inch coils you will get 5 to 6 inches of lift.

Plus get it engineered and depending where you are, you will have almost zero chance. Thats only another 1000

edit: also depends if you want to spend the rest of your days being pulled over in a higher 4b. specially when the new rules come in...

Gday mate,

Yeah i have 88' Maverick, and i have four inch lift.

Im running:

Four inch tough dog springs
Long travel 9way adjustable tough dog shockies
9way Adjustable steering damper
Front adjustable tough dog panard rod
Rear adjustable tough dog panard rod
Superior engineering 4 inch drop boxes
Superior engineering gear box spaces
Custom made double cardinal rear drive shaft
Extended brake lines front and rear
Four inch sway bar disconnectors

With this set up i get no vibrations in the rear talishaft and it rides really well. After getting the drop boxes it drives like stock if not better.

cheers brad

i run a 4 inch ironman lift im my swb, if you like to spend money and like head aches get 4 inch and over, if i was doing it again id go 3 inch coils, 6 inch shocks with cones and springs clamped in and an inch or to in the body, it sounds like a bit of work but it could be done in a day, iv spent over 6 months trying to get my 4 inch running right, as i didnt want to do double cardinal

What was in your Ironman kit? One of my mates just got one in his GU ute and (no offence) it sucks the big one.

the 4 inch foam cell comp lift, i find it good, hit shit hard as without bottoming it out, flexes well, but if i did it again id buy it all seperate as i said before. came with springs shocks panhards caster plates brake lines sway bar extensions

Too stiff on the rougher stuff (washaways and rutted tracks). Might be those foam cell shocks though (not the whole kit).

Could you say nature of the kit, keep it firm, and keep it in control?
