Doing a swap from a 4 speed transmission to a 5 speed transmission
on a 1982 hj60 landcruiser

I need tailshafts to suit the round flanges and the length to suit the 5 speed.

The only pair of tail shafts i've come across at wreckers are off an auto gearbox

Does anybody know if the tailsahfts off the auto transmission will bolt up to the manual gearbox.

Im more concerned about the flanges as i can get the shafts cut to suit.

all the 60 tailshafts ive come accross use the same size uni, so u can just remove the flange end from your old tail shaft n fit it to your new one

ive done the 4 to 5 speed change, but was some time ago so a little hazy on the details. havent come across an auto shaft so dont know about there length, the 5 speed ones are far more common anyway. i reused the top part of the old shaft, the female part of the slip yoke, n got a five speed tail shaft n changed the flange end on it. didnt have to get a shaft cut down

the only reason why im asking about the autos shafts is that most wreckers bend the tail shafts when moving the cars with the forlift so the only unbent tail shafts ive come across are from an auto,

My plan is to use the auto tailshafts and swap flanges on one end to suit my diffs and if needed get them cut and adjusted to suit the length,

unless anyone can think of better way or has a spare pair of tailshafts to suit late model 5 speed gearbox wit round flange in sydney

i've just change from the 4 speed to the five speed in my82 hj60.
used a gear box and shafts from an fj60. flanges were spot on. no mucking about with swapping at all.

auto shafts are different to 5 speed. (rear is shorter, front is longer)

shop around, you will eventually find some good ones
