Ok, time to trade in the Jackaroo, n get a LC, as a remote touring wagon. Thought i would jump on here for some advice.
2 options:
3 yr old 100 series GXL (live axels only not the IFS), or
New V8 wagon workmate.

My Problem is 100 series is simple engine, tons of spare parts, and super reliable, cheap aftermarket stuff too. But less power, older, still expensive and no longer in production. ( i want a car to keep for many years.)

V8 wagon is super tough, big engine, etc, but is it going to be reliable? A lot of extra money for an engine that has not proven itself yet. I have heard rumors of oils usage, wheel nuts shearing, and that wider front track (stupid idea toyota!)

Anyone got the new wagon? are they worth the 60k plus?
Appreciate opinions

Cheers.

I'd try to talk to some people who use them on mine sites... Sure they will have horror stories but will the stories be worse than 100 or patrol horror stories... of which i've heard heaps. I don't think there is any truer test of a recently released vehicle than to live a couple of years on mine sites.

Wider front track is easliy fixed....Can't shed any advice on the other stuff

These guys give theirs a good work out...

the wagons are a damn long way more comfortable than troopies or utes over long distance. NVH and body design is far superior on the wagons.

Ive thrashed a few of the new ones for quite some time, not had any dramas, the early ones had some issues, but thats always to be expected.

the V8s are simply awsome. the troopys and wagons ride so much better than the utes and the utes dont ride too bad. the V8s have sorted themselves out now i think. not many people talking about problems of late, they all got an update on the turbo oil seals which fixed it.

i havent heard of the wheel nuts shearing off... ive given mine a hiding, i mean a flogging specially in the last week or two and they are the same tension they were when i had my wheels and tyres fitted over 3 months and 15000kays ago.

the wheel track difference is actually quite annoying when offroad. the back slips into everything. very annoying.

How about getting a 105 GXL and fitting the 1hdfte factory turbo motor? The conversion is pretty common these days, i think killalux also does a 95% plug and play loom.

You can make the IFS models Tuff aswell.... for remote touring i dont think the live axle model has any advantage over the IFS once its setup properly.
