Got the paperwork back from the MVR (Motor Vehicle Registry) yesterday, They tell me that because my car has a total overall lift of 156mm, its 56mm outside the limit and thus has to be engineered. I believe the engineering work up here costs around $1700, so it leaves me with 2 options.
1) get a loan out, get some decent work done to the car (moving shock mountings, mayber RUF or SPOA, possible hilux diffs and driveline) and get it all engineered in one hit.
2) lower the car 56mm so it doesnt need engineering (hoping that i can take the body lift out and still leave enough room in the engine bay for the G16A engine, and remove some leafs (which i was already planning to do, to increase the wheel travel) which should drop me the other 6mm
I was leaning towards the second option, because I'd like to play around with the car to learn the mechanical side of things before moving onto my next vehicle.
Just thought i'd put the ideas up and see what pro's and con's people could think of...

31" tyres on a zuk are illegal in all states without engineering anyway dude - best to do it right the first time and make sure its legal.
Engineering wise, $1700 is pretty close if you're doing the lane change test etc... but otherwise you should be able to get out of it cheaper than that.

I think a mate of mine has some spare 215's - should be able to get it registered full time onroad with those while i do some further work to the car in slow time, and get it all engineered in one shot...
