Another turbo to engine quiz am I expecting too much

Hi all can anyone tell me if my turbo, engine or fuel pump is sick. It’s a diesel engine by the way
My toyota surf only seems to boost too 2700 rpm and it then just sit their and seems to do nothing and the engine will not rev over 3000 O it will but it takes along time.
On free rev it rev's rite up but when it is under load it wont.
O and that orange light on the dash is always on when it underload and sitting on or over 2700 rpm's
The turbo seems to kick in about 1600rpm with green light all the way until 2700rpm and then I get orange.
The engine is a 2t (2.4t) and my 4x4 is a 87surf, I did see my engine blow smoke today for the first time, it was under a lot of stress (EG) low rev's in low 4x4 climbing a f###ing big hill.
This only happened when I had stopped moving and if this means something, the car was on a leaning to the right. the turbo spooling up ok well I think it is anyway the only thing I have found is the engine seems to have blow by (crack case pressure) feeding the inlet with oil is it the case that CCP can increase with the more rev’s and lugging of the motor as I believe this is why my engine blow smoke today but as for the rest of my question I am at a loss
Hope someone can shine a light my way

Have U checked the injector pump mixture. If it does not blow some black smoke occasionally it may be too lean & thats easy to adjust. It should spin free past 3000rpm. Maybe your muffler & air cleaner are blocked?
Also have pump timing checked, not too hard!

I remember when my mate had a swb cruiser with a 2l-t motor and the orange light was on heaps he found out that it meant it was overboosting and it automatically cuts the flow of fuel to the engine so no damage is caused. Can't exactly remember what he had done to fix it, but he did rebuild the engine and get the turbo done. Was all good after that.

Hi, all thanks for the replies
I have just not long serviced the 4x4 it got new air, oil and fuel filters and I not long ago replaced the muffler for this reason.
I thought the orange light meant over boosting but I was not sure well it looks like its off to the diesel mechanic with in the month then its got me.

I think you might both be on the rite track, I did think the pump might be the problem but, I thought it might be that valve on top of the fuel pump which controls the flow of fuel too how much boost and, the other thing I did think about was that the waste gate might be stuck shut or the actuator for the waste gate might not be working as it should.
What do you think and could you ask your mate at some stage what he did to solve his problem
Regards,
Brendon

Why not fit a boost gauge? The you will Know a lot more about what is happening. If you only want to rig one temporary, tie it to the wiper arm so you can read it while driving. Tee into the line that runs to the actuator for the wastegate.

"What a good idea" why didn’t I think of that. See what happens when you sniff too much diesel. Cool well I will try that and post a reply soon to what I have found.
thanks
