MK V8 conversion

Have MK petrol 4 speed want to fit chev and diesel 5 speed, can i use the existing gearbox mounts ( tailshafts etc) and just modify the engine mounts

The stick is a lot further forward on the 5 speed than the 4sp box. You can swap the tops around with a little buggering around. If you put the 5 sp in the g/box will be round 100mm further forward from memory. This puts the gear stick up under the heater box.
Do a search very helpful. From my experiance just put the box where it should be, make up some new shafts and mod some mounts.

Thanks for the info, but if i move the box back on new mounts the rocker covers of the chevy will be to close to the firewall.

how close is to close?
mods encounter you to get the grinder out and make it fit
such in this case!

Use the L28 input shaft and order your adapter kit to suit an L28 petrol, this should bring the motor forward from memory. But yes i do remember always having rocker cover clearance issues when going from SD33 or P40 to V8
