Purchasing a modified hilux
G-day, am new to this stuff. Just got my p's and am after a 85 extra cab hilux. There is one for sale, and has a 3.8 v,6 commodore engine. It also has a ten inch lift "bit tooooooooo high", but never the less, I want a lux. I need help, I know little about 4x4's especially with major mods.
Any help, will be much appreciated, and one more thing, what sort of fuel does a 3.8 guzzzzzzle up. I can't afford a monster, it still has to get from a to b. Any help!!!!
cheers!!!!
If anyone has a nice lux for sale, let me know!!!

Good to see a newbie.
I started out with the same truck I've still got - 84 surf - Since purchasing it it's now a different truck but thats another story.
Hiluxs are good trucks with plenty of parts out there and alot of knowledge on modifications and simple cheap tricks - check out Suprasurf at www.4wd.net.nz, Hes also posted heaps on this website.
The v6 sounds like it would be a heap of fun, but you might be better off learning in something standard. Get to know your truck and how to drive it.
Get amongst it.

I understand he has done major mods, but for now, I don't want the best equipment, rather cheap stuff that can handle off-road tracks

to do a suspension lift and set it up right it will probable cost u 500-1000$ (with dropped hangers, extended shackles, etc...( and then u will need long travel shocks and move the shock mounts, its abit of work but it aint too bad if you know what you are doing.... or if u want the lift and dont really mind about the flex you can always just get parabolics, they are good to learn on and u look good in the car parks and with that you just bolt them straight in some people may say parabolics are crap, but hey most of us have had them before
