Check the primary and secondary ignition circuits.
Primary-
Is the coil positive receiving 12 volts and does that 12 volts stay connected when the starter is cranked.
Is the coil negative connected to the distributor.
Does the coil body have a good earth to the electrical system.
Are the points (if applicable) set correctly.
Is the rotor button installed and functioning
Secondary-
Is the coil producing spark.
Is that spark reproduced at the plugs.
Are the plugs gapped right and working.
Check coil primary and secondary resistances.
Check the coil for cracks or signs of excessive heating.
Timing, is the distributor timing close enough to correct to allow the motor to fire.
Cheers

i bought the motor out of the extra cab ute, then a few months later ended up buying the extra cab ute,so it was running up until motor was removed, the day before i bought it.
a couple of wires had been cut to remove motor, namely the wires running to distributor, which i have rejoined with conectors for now,the cab had been removed from chassis as a chev was going to be installed to replace the clevo,so wiring had been cut which appears to be for tail lights and possably gas related wiring to,but they have also been reconected, where cut but im sure exactly where they go at the back, looks like an earth to gas tanks but not entirely sure, wiring isnt my strong point, well im not mechanically gifted either, lol, but ill go check wiring between coil and dizzy, there is a good chance it is fuel related, but i dont have the faintest so will happyily rule anything out, cheers struth

i should point out that the carby and gas mixer i had to buy seperatly as previous owner kept the originals, but everything else was as it was when it ran

Check for spark at the end of the spark plug leads, best way is to pull a lead off, stick a spark plug in it and ground the plug to the motor.
If it sparks you can possibly remove ignition sytem from the list, if it doesn't then the ignition system is definately the prob.
Good luck

ok,it has spark at the plugs, gas getting past solenoides, could it be air related, carby hasnt got all the vacume lines hooked up,also when it turns over it appears sluggish, but just like my other 60 when u try to start it on petrol,as its not hooked up either, only other thing i could think of is perhaps gas isnt getting through convertor from the solenoide,as it had been disconected since around christmas

flick the gas on and put some start ya bastard down a vacume line and start it.
it will probably start and run but wont idle, in which case your idle mixtures are probably out.
also, check the gaslock safety switch is staying on when you are cranking
