Rear wheel bearing Question- GQ Patrol

With the rear axle on stands, my right rear wheel can move in and out tthe diff by about 3-4mm. I believe this has been knocking my brake pads back into the caliper and giving me a soft brake pedal on the first pump.

I got the right rear axle out the diff and tightened the wheel bearing real tight, put it back together but it made no difference

Took the rear axle out again and looked to see if there were any shims i could take out so the axle bolted in deeper into the diff

Found that the rear drum brake GQ has shims and the disk brake model doesnt have shims. Mine is a disk brake, so no shims.

Does this mean that the wheel bearing is just worn out and needs to be replaced?

Hi 351, it sounds like the bearing is worn. They are a PITA to renew. Mate how did you tighten the nut, have you got the socket for it? Cheers Loz.

Yes replace. The bearing is a double row with a fixed spacer.
No adjustment.

Find someone with the correct LONG tube socket or 'C' spanner to remove and do up nut.
Also a press is required to remove bearing from axle.
Just ring a few 4wd repair shops or even a Nissan dealer and take the axle there.

Thanks for the replies.

I dont have the socket, just used a screwdriver and hammer to tighten the wheelbearing.

But I'll be taking the axle to a workshop to press a new bearing on.
