Fuel return line leaking ?!

Gday all,

Just got my 94 GQ diesel back after having my motor rebuilt and I have fuel leaking from the fuel return line.

Pulled it apart and found there was a brass washer between the return line and injector.

When I pulled it apart prior to the rebuild I'm sure there were rubber seals seated in the return line where it meets the top of the injector as well as the brass washers

My memory is pretty bad though :roll:

If there are no rubber seals, what do people recommend to seal the brass washers properly?

If there were rubber seals, anybody know where I can get them from?!

PS I was into my 6th rum when i was pulling it apart the first time :D :D

Make sure that the fuel spill return pipe--the one that connects between all the injectors--has been installed the correct way up. The grooved side of the rings that connect to the pipe should face down towards the injector and there should be a copper washer there sealing it to the injector body which has a couple of small holes in it to allow fuel return from the injector. There has---as far as i know--always been copper washers there--never rubber ones...

If you do decide to fix it yourself, be very carefull removing the nuts off the top of the injectors as the spill pipe can spin and break...

If the copper washers wont seal they may or work hardened. re anneal them with a gas torch to make them soft again.

Thanks for the replies guys,

The return pipe is facing the right way so it must be that the washers haven't bedded in properly. I'll warm them up a little and see if that fixes the problem.

Are you that broke that you can't afford some new .02 cents brass washers? I don;t think that annealing them will achieve anything, as the copper has been compressed, not work hardened through mechanical stress. Put some new washers on.

They are brand new :?

As i said the motor has only just been rebuilt, probably has 40 k's on it
