AUTO HUB PROBS???

Hey guys got an LN107 IFS auto hubs etc, took it out tonight and noticed the front wheels do not turn, 4wd light comes on when u press the button on the gear lever but nothing.

Any suggestions? Help? :cry:

No one can point me in the right direction? Spent all day trying to sort it out but i have no idea how the system works :( If i swap the 2 vacuuum lines that go down to the diff over i can manage to engage the hubs
( i think) but not the transfer. Does anyone have any clues?

my transfer and front diff engage on the shifter, there is no button. i had auto hubs an they used to lock in an out when they wanted so i changed to free wheeling hubs. when i took the auto hubs off i noticed that all they do is always have your axle locked to the wheel which is just additional wear that you dont need.

As the axles are always turning and also your front shaft will always be turning but if you have the front off the deck and spin the front wheels you can stop your front shaft spinning with light pressure as the vaccum (Automatic Disengaging Differential) thing isnt on in your front diff.

swap to free wheelers? could save you a lot of grief if you do your front diff while out wheeling, plus saves wear on your front end running gear.

as for your other issue about the front diff an transfer not engaging i cant help sorry, try cleaning up all the connections. my mates surf is very temperamental with the electronics. you have to hold your tongue right

do you run your lux the minimum of 16kms a month or sumthing to lubricate everything?

If im too busy i will lock my front hubs in every now an then to get everything spinning.

Only just got it but once i sort it ill be keeping it in use :D
I dont mind changing the hubs to manual but i have no idea how id go at it, basically id have to lock the ADD actautor on, but i still dont see how i can get the transfer turning.. All the info i have found beats around the bush about how to do it.

ADD has nothing to do with your hubs.

You have drive plates which permanently connect your wheels to your front axles.

The ADD system works by disconnecting the left(i think) drive shaft from the front Diff. This means that your cv's and axles are always turning, no matter wether its in 4wd or not (ADD or not).

It uses a sliding spline to engage and disengage the connection between the left drive shaft and the diff.

It also means your front diff is ALWAYS turning, as your right wheel is turning the diff all the time. The front drive shaft should not turn unless you are in 4wd as the diff simply turns the left side of the diff backwards, drive shaft remains still.

First thing you need to do is confirm your transfer case is actually in 4wd. (look to see if front drive shaft is turning when in 4wd)

If it is turning then your problem is with the ADD. It is very common for the vacum lines controlling the ADD to be disconnected, blocked, broken, kinked, or swapped around, which will cause your system to work incorrectly. You need to get a manual, and check all your lines are connected properly, check for kinks, blockages etc etc.

Thanks shadow i have been researching/investigating all weekend and im still nowhere, my system uses a button on the transfer to activate the elec transfer motor and the vsv (valves that supply vacuum to the ADD unit).

SO basically i have the 4wd light coming up on the dash but its not engaging the transfer motor or the VSVs. Vacuum is there but the valves are not getting signals to the plugs. I found out there is a relay right next to the steering column labelled fuel pump relay which is actually for the ADD system i changed but still no difference (relay does not click). With the VSVs one will engage the other will disengage, if i swap the constant vacuum from the disengage vsv to the engage inlet on the diff the hubs (actually ADD sleeve) do engage so its definately a wiring/elec problem but i have no idea as most people with my probs dont have the green 4wd light on the dash.
Its really got me stuck :(
