Ive come across several vehicles that have done this.

Brake, and you hear the water slosh around, if your lucky, your feet get soaking wet.

Check the sill panel drains.
Get a med sized zip tie, and poke it in the gaps to make sure there not blocked.

That would be my first place to look.

Let us know what you find.

My rear quarters get wet because the rear split windows let water in in heavy rain. Not sure if you,ve got these but they also have a crome strip below it that also lets water in where it clips to the body. Bit of silicone will fix that. Definately check for mud and sand build up where water should be getting out. My rear quarters had their fair share when i checked. My roof also holds water after rain that comes out when you go round a corner, you end up with water in your lap, nice hey. Any one out there heard of this one? I,ve been told by the blokes who replaced the windscreen that it gets in along the gutters above the doors.

Davo....
Its the sills, from the rear window chrome strip leaking or the windscreen. Easiest way to stop it is to pull the bungs out and leave out....check also the www.lcool.org site for the rust catcher section...and remove those plugs too.
Otherwise, have a great time in the 80

Couldn't be getting in around the windscreen rubber because i had a go at the blokes who changed it so they pulled it out and put a shit load of goop in the seal. Enough to be spilling out and me having to keep cleaning it off after 3months. I think my problem is the seal on the roof gutters, it's old and cracked and water is seaping in and sitting along the top of the windscreen. Great spot for rust hey.

near the bungs there is little drain holes on the lowest seam of the sills, use a small flat blade screw driver to clean out the crud, I opened them up a little wider with some gentle leverage while I was at it, this should let them drain no problem, leave the bungs in to keep mud out

there is similar drains on the bottom edge of doors too.

as for why water gets in? its a car, they arent water proof, as long as it can drain away it wont be a problem.

Give it a good rinse out with the hose, and unblock the drains till they run clear.

in the door sills or in the sills behind the rear tyres...

or maybe the drains are blocked in the doors?
