hilux transfer info please

need info on transfer and gearbox.

1. its a 84 model hilux ln65 with the 2l 2.4 diesel, what transfer is in it is it gear drive or chain.

2. what is the difficulty in rebuilding ie, are bearings pressed in are there any tricks and things to look out for. will be putting reduction in also any tricks or info on that would be a great help

It will be a gear driven one. They are not hard to pull apart and rebuild or fit reduction gears to. Grab a manual and go from there. A good idea is to take pictures as you pull it apart. There are a few small springs, balls and pins in there that locate on the main shafts etc.

only bitch i had was a blind bearing on the rear case for the idler gear to the front output shaft- took a bit to get that bastard out.

Its definately gear driven.

I installed reduction gears recently if you get the locktup ones it comes with step by step instructions its hard to go wrong and i didn't need any special tool or a press

hardest part of the locktup kit is finding where you hid your 4" grinder to clearance the case! :lol:
