yes!!! of course you should be worried!

Pull it apart and check it again. if you can't see what is wrong take it to a specialist diff joint. Slightest fookup and you'll be completely reconditioning it again in no time.

is it a "NEW" gearset, or are they new to you?
if they are old, they may have a shit wear pattern in them
if not, Yon is on the mark.

Agreed, are both crownwheel and pinion new, or at least a matched pair? A new componant and a used one are going to whine like crazy.

IF your back lash is %100 correct and you still have a whine, then your pinion depth is wrong.
the two pinions should have a the checking depth marked on them.
By comparing the two numbers and the depth shims (i'm not %100 sure how the nissan diff adjust its pinion depth), you can work out how much shim is used to correct for machining tolerance on the carrier and how much shim is there for the pinion.
In doing so you can work out how much shim needs to be there for the new pinion.

Did you check the contact pattern?

Mate of mine had new gears put in the front of his cruiser when the locker was installed and they used to whine like crazy. Apparently with new gears they haven't 'worn' in and will whine, anyway it went away and is now 100%.
