LN106 hilux front and rear diffs - are they the same?

I have a detroit autolocker in my farm hack in the front

I was hoping to put that in the back, and weld up the rear diff and throw that in the front....

so my big question is am i right to assume the front and rear diffs interchangable?
and i have read on here that they are interchangable but have different ratios? :?:

Cheers,

Ash

they are interchangeable

but welded diff in the front is not good its better off in the back

why is that?

my logic was that on the road,

the detroit will give /some/ slip
where as the welded will give none

which will then increase understeer and chew out tyres?

Yeah i thought that as well
but i thought this was a farm truck
even off road with the front welded u wont be able to turn the bugger
best idea would be to get another locker or you will be getting out while in 4x4 to unlock hubs to make turns

Yeah, thrashlux speaks the truth. Even if it doesnt see the road, you'll be better off with the locker in the front and welded rear. Otherwise, no steering and broken birfs everywhere.

Ive got a welded rear in a daily driver and I barely noticed it in there (driveability wise) havent broken any axles and ive given it a hiding, on and off road.

Yes they're interchangable and they have to have the same ratio or you have bigger problems

if the diffs were different ratios front to back it would be like a backo n just dig itself in hahaha. pretty sure they would be the same front to back and they are interchangeable.... go weld rear air lock front for cheapest way...
