Pinion Bearing dead ...can it wreck anything?

been 4wding and rooted my rear pinion bearing and well i havn't got the time to fix it and im wondering if it could create more damage by driving it... and will the shot pinion bearing allow the tail shaft to have slack ...like clunk under sharp acceleration and deceleration ?

also what would i have to do to wreck a pinion bearing?

if the pinion bearing collapses it will destroy your pinion and crown wheel

dont drive it till its replaced

It will make a nasty noise.
I broke chunks nearly the hole of my pinion.

As far as I know, No you can't take the inside outand run off the front diff.
Land rovers on the hand can.

why not fix it, it isnt that expensive. IF you have time to remove it, you have time to repair it

easy job, jack up back axle, dump diff oil, take off the rear driveshaft, and take pinion nut off(youll need a rattle gun and a 30mm socket bit for the nut), take seal out, and bearing, replace bearing and seal and put back together again, youll need a torque wrench for when you put the pinion nut back on(if you over tighten pinion nut, you will collapse the bearing). then fill up diff with new oil. done.
a new seal will cost be less than 10 bucks, mine cost me 9 from a bearing specialist, dan off here paid 7 from peps. the bearing shouldnt be too much. easy job, have it done in half a day no worries.

I had one let go at 110km/h and destroy the entire diff, axles etc, siezed up solid.

so what would have done it? pushing it too hard? is there stronger bearings out there that could handle a boot full?

Mate if a hilux diff explodes or a bearing shits itself it does it for a reason. unless it has chewed teeth off its not power related.
Im guessing Drift Technician diff ran out of oil.
Yours I suspect is passed its used by date. Pull it out and buy another one for $50, there everywhere. Or you could rebuild it for less than that ;)

I just paid about $35 for each bearing, $24 for the crush sleeve & about 10$ for a new seal. got a mate to put it in & now I can sleep at night.

could be, check and see if any oil comes out and the condition. could just be wear & tear too.

Oh and also,

This is what my housing looked like after I realised my pinion bearing/seal was blown, And I don't think my breather was very good either.

What makes you think the pinion bearing is gone?

Nah mine shat itself 9km's after I bought the truck, the crown/pinion was shagged and was flogging the bearing out.

Hey! Leave my diff alone. Haha.

Nutella would of been nicer then the crap that in there, It was also pretty much in there from one axle side to the other.

He prefers the pronunciation Hey-zuss though. :D

And eve was dismissed last week after we caught her getting boned by adam our smoko van driver. Seems he was getting more than apples from her......
