No you haven't.
There's a few plugs to connect into the back of the instrument cluster. Pull it out and check that they're in PROPERLY
Same deal with the speedo. It's a c*nt to connect, just have to sit there wiggling it and twisting it until it the little spline lines up properly. You'll know when it's on.

do you have to tweist it much, cause mine doesnt seem to twist that much, how do you know its in properly like will it cick in or anything?

please clarify on that side
is the dash not working ie the guages not moving + no back light
or is it just no back light
if the former it could be a bad earth u could try a temporary earth and see if it starts working

There's a little pin inside the plastic shroud. Depending on how much you've moved it already or how much it was knocked about whilst the dash was out you may have to twist the actual pin. It is round with a flat surface. This flat surface must line up with the flat surface in the back of the instrument cluster.
When it's in it should slide all the way on and click. If it's on and clicked it shouldn't slide back off without pushing the clip in.
If you think you've got it, give it a light tug.
I hope this make's sense.

l agree with canyonera 4x4 l had my dash apart put it back together everything worked but illumination if you've followed all the advice so far and no avial trace all your connectors using hilux repair manual
with my illumination not working the cause was the dimmer switch for lights which is just below the handbrake on the left side of steering wheel it was rusted and corroded pluggin it in blew fuses it was faulty trip to wreckers fixed it
