chasing some pretty important info before buying a wrangler, and reading this forum everyone seems to know wat they are talkign bout and really helpful..
so heres my story, im wanting to buy a wrangler, its for beach use and everyday driving but hopefully some some challenging beach use in the future.
cuz of my everyday driving i love the options the 05 and upwards golden eagles give me, but have also been reading certain models and year models have different diffs better suited for certain set ups ext?
im wanting somthing everyday driver friendly but capablew on the beach and also a fairly mean look to it whether it be lift and some eman tyres but wat sort of fat tyres drive well on the beach, not sure wat lift options whether its body or suspension are legal, and wat size tyres are legal? whether u could post some pics of type of tyres with correct lifts, nething that can help me..
cheers guys

First up .. Sunny Coast has a pretty good jeep club .. look em up .. good bunch of guys.
Tyres ... generally .. normal street tyres or AT (All Terrain) tyres are good on the sand .. much more agressive and your likely to be digging holes.
Pretty sure lift laws are now national... so any more then 2 inch spring and 2 inch body you'll be illegal. Tyres .. on a TJ I think the max "legal" is 31.
So with 31's .. you only need one or the other .. not both types of lift.. and heaps of guys run 31's with no lift.
My TJ was very capable on the beach bog stock .. they have a great power to weight .... and pretty much punch through anything.. though bigger tyres does make the going a lot easier.
I've a 2000 ... and it's the 5 speed ... if you look at getting a 6 speed I'm thinking those gearbox's are better.. though someone else is likely to have a better opinion on that. Also the later models have both the hard & soft top.
Anywho

cheers mate,
yeah the people iv spoken to says they run great stock, the only reason for the lift and tyres is to get an easier run if i look at doing some harder tracks, and i want an overall more aggressive look aswel, love the look of a lifted jeep sittin on some big tyres, but dont want to jepodise the everyday ride or churn to much sand over by putting crazi muddies on it or nething, just chasing a lifted fatter look..

Check my rig out in the Vehicles for Sale section. I reckon it's just what you need. Not over the top, but phat like a Jeep should be.

i wouldn't touch a 6 speed the box is far too light. I think they changed in about 2004 from 5-6 speed and heaps of the 6 speed were changed under warranty more the once for people who started using them off road on the beach etc. Bearing noises etc. If you want a later model eg 05 onwards i would go with the auto being a 4 speed they accept larger tires without having to worry as much about diff ratios and they seem to be pretty good specially if beach driving is your thing. As for the manual boxes side by side the 6 speed can be picked up by one person the 5 speed is much bigger and heavier overall which means something surely. Thats my bit anyway others might difffer in opinion...

2" suspension lift and 32" tyres, i've had 4.11 diff gearing for a while and the 32's are really good offroad but they suck onroad. Going from 31's to 32's was disasterous for my fuel economy but i think it has more to do with the 11.5 wide tyres. Next set i'm going to go for a tall narrow tyre which should also help out bigtime on the beach. I consistently get about 11-12l/100klm offroad or up the beach but about 16-18L/100klm at anything above 80klm/hr onroad. It's a big wind resisting brick. I was getting 13l/100klm onroad towing the camper trailor with the 31x10.5" tyres with the 4.11 gears so the 32's really killed my economy.

I havn't heard too many bad things about the 6sp manual. I can tell you that the 5sp with stock gearing & 31's will outrun a 6sp with stock gearing & 31's from the lights
The biggest disadvantage is that the 6sp/4sp auto's hang lower and therefore the t-case hangs lower than the 5sp/3sp auto models.

Auto's are a lot better than manuals on soft sand, but would recomend a large trans cooler, legal 2'' lift and road style soft side wall 31'' tyres will do the job but I would still run an 8'' rim
