hi there
i am new to the feroza world..
i have just brought a 1997 feroza and its stock as a rock.
i have been looking on here searching about diff locks.. i have been speaking to oppers lock and the dont have anything for the diif altho i was woundering is any other brand of 4x4 such as toyota diffs fit.. HELP WOULD BE GREAT...
also i am after cheep lift altho i dont want to do body lift... all i want in the fit 31 muddies on.. i figure i try and see what its like with tyres and some lift then take it from there...
does anyone know how much say 2" suspension lft be worth??

Hello. The feroza's a great little beast and pretty rare, so modding it will definitely make you stand out from all of the zooks around. The downside of this rarity (plus it's age) means that there is absolutely NO aftermarket support and just about everything is going to be custom.
To put it simply, diff locks for the feroza basically don't exist. Detroit used to make a locker for them many years ago, there's about 3 I know of in australia. If you're lucky you'll come across some feroza's that came with an LSD standard.
A body lift is easily the cheapest lift you can do (if you are going to do it yourself).
Since you don't want to go that direction (I didn't) the cheapest possible suspension lift you can do for the feroza is to get your leafs reshaped (cold method), get longer shocks and to crank your torsion bars, losing you all of your front wheel travel. This option would cost about $600 from your local suspension place.
I opted for new leafs, shocks etc. but not new torsion bars from suspension stuff, they do a kit for about $900 not including fitting (free frieght though).
Body lift or suspension lift will let you fit your 31's on, if you wanted more space in the wheel arch I suggest making some room with an angle grinder.
Another thing that's been talked about and done to increase front lift/travel is to make yourself some ball joint spacers (make them out of DECENT stuff or something bad is bound to happen).
Ok, you'll definitely feel a lack of power on 31's and there really isn't much you can do for it (ask MightyMouse, he's done everything under the sun with the HD-E engine).
Back to lockers, I'm pretty sure none of the internals of a feroza diff can be interchanged with anything, your best bet would be to just weld up the front diff as I'm sure you'll be pretty happy with that.
That's pretty much all I can think of to help. A feroza perfoms very well stock and once you get past the cheap mods you'll find that if you want to turn it into a absolute machine you'll have precious little daihatsu left once you're done.
Anyways, that's all the negatives, so there's not much bad news left.
I'm in no way a feroza/mechanical guru so I could be wrong on a few points. MightyMouse will definitely be able to answer most of your questions though.

Welcome to the Feroza world
As the Feroza is IFS - messing with the suspension for lift creates many challenges. If you want to fit the 31's - then go a body lift.
Its cheap, quick, simple and effective and doesn't F up the suspension.
Just be aware that depending on the ACTUAL tire diameter they may still touch on full compression - which is extremely BAD as if this happens at speed and for long enough it WILL crack the body in front of the A pillars.
Spacing the compresssion bump stop will fix and make virtually no difference to its off road capability.
As per diff locks - there is a rear locker available in Europe but its expensive and you have to provide them with a centre to get it done - so freight is an absolute killer. Far more than the vehicles worth ( and I'm absolutely serious ).
Just get uesd to not finding aftermarket parts ........ you can get snorkels, shocks, heavier leaves and bars - occaisionally a front or rear bar but after that the pickings are pretty thin.
If you into making stuff, then the Feroza's an ideal vehicle

cool.. thanks guys for replys..... i am learning that ferozas are just to tuff to mod...
all i am after is t run say 29 inch muds so i dont loose much power...
in winding up the torsion bars how much can you wind befor it gets to much stress on the bars.... i was thinkiing taking the springs out and getting them raised say 40 to 50 mm. can i get this lift in the t bars with out doing damage..???
also have you guys know any people that have raised rear spring

30 Inch tyres are probably the limit in terms of managing stock power vs. tyre size.
I know in nsw the max. non-engineered tyre size is 235/75r15. A lot of us get around with those on.
Most people wind the torsion bars to about 40-50mm (2 inches) and in doing so lose almost all of their wheel travel (droop). You can combat this by putting in a top ball joint spacer (most go 30mm) and resetting the camber, this increases your droop travel.
Another option with front lift is to put in a top and bottom ball joint spacer in combination with a slight winding up of the torsion bars. The bottom ball joint spacer will provide a slight lift (ballpark figure of 20/30mm, don't quote me on this) and the top spacer will make up for the cranking of the torsion bars as well as giving you a bit more droop. Check the other thread on the ball joint spacers for more info.

Fits straight in AFTER lots of work
I'm running a HiAce housing, Hilux centre and locker, custom axles, discs and 180SX calipers. Spring seats are different ( and in different positions ) as well as shackle plates, U bolts etc etc......
ITs a PERMANENT solution to Feroza rear end issues but couldn't be described as "fitting straight in" in your wildest dreams.
Still some of us apparently have way to much time on our hands.

Whats the go with fitting winches to ferozas? am new to 'rozas and have a winch in the shed i can use....

Through my work I received an internal bulletin recently, the Safari Snorkel is not a safari snorkel but an imitation one. Be aware the plastic is not UV stabilised so watch for cracking around the mounts and also general brakedwown of the snorkel body.
BUT if you get one cheap enough and are happy with it go for it!
(I am working at seeing if I can get a different snorkel to fit an 85 Rocky with some plumbing work. (Comparing them against the gaurds to find one that "fits" the panel work..... then comes the fun of working on the plumbing lol)
will let everyone know when I find one that fits, hopefully the same one will fit a Roza
