hi all i am going to put a gm 5 liter and auto into a hzj 80 using a marks adaptors kit now wiring is not problem but reading through thier website it advises that it is necacary to relocate aircon and cut and remove engine mounts .
mounts are an easy job but has any one got any advice on the aircon
and any other advice about the mod i rang an auto trans guy and was told that the auto needs its shaft changed but marks said the transfer adapter just bolted onto a t700 with the extension housing removed.
so i am wondering if any one can clarify.

1982 fj 60 with all late model gxl stuff 3 inches of lift ,snorkel ,lokker,bullbar,winch,ford 5 liter and a meggasquirt ECU
You have to strip the transfer to change the input shaft. also the rear exstention housing from the transmission needs to be removed and from memory about 25mm needs to be cut off the output shaft coming out of the transmission. The conversion is easy, however the 5 liter does not have a lot of power. A ls1 or ls2 is a better option. the reason why i went a 5 liter was because i had one and a stroker crank to up the ante a little.

yea i am hearing you we are after a mild power upgrade and an auto and as a lot of my mates drive 5 liters and 5.7 i know how hard a 5 liter can go .
and i ran a 5 liter ford in my 60 and it was sick and running rough and still went well to the point i am now fitting a much newer and healthier XR8 v8 with an after market ecu

5 ltr is a waste of time in an 80
the straight six had virtually the same power std as the 5 ltr and i would trust it a hell of LOT MORE when off the beaten track
Ls1 is the way to go if u want a petrol v8
the conversion costs are all the same its just the engine cost that is different and that is not the biggest consideration when doing a conversion most people do conversions to make their car go better because nothing was offered with that power originally etc
but in this case all you would gain over a 4.5 six is a exhaust note change
and a whole lot of stuffing around
there are toyota diesel sixes that go better than a 5ltr powered 80 but use half the fuel and tow a lot better as well
