Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Well, all that extra GRUNT from the Applause donk seems to have sent my gearbox back to meet it's maker....anybody got a spare one lying around, preferably in VIC???

So what's happened to it AJ?

There was a guy in NSW (Sydney I think) who had one for sale - supposedly with new bearings in it.

OK, the prob with the box is most likely a bearing. It makes a horrible "scraping" noise in 1st, 2nd and third. Fourth sounds fine and fifth has a bit of noise. She still shifts perfectly, etc., but sounds f#$@in terrible in the lower gears. So, I reckon a gearbox specialist should be able to replace the bearing(s) and have her up and running again nice and quick. The only prob for me is that I've just moved back to Melbourne, and have lost touch with all my old contacts, so need to find somebody that'll do a reasonable job.

Just a quick Q, has anybody actually pulled their box out of a Feroza themselves b4? If so, was it one of those sh!tty jobs you'd never do again, or is it a reasonably easy one? I don't have the workshop facilities I had in Sydney, so it'll be a tad more diificult here. If somebody's done it b4 and reckons it is a real sh!t of a job, then I'll pay somebody to pull it out and put it back in....would rather save the dollars on that though.

I did mine twice replacing the clutch, i wouldn't say it's anything to hard to do. Only the bolts on the top of the bellhousing like a lot of cars are the hardest to get to, but seeing you have swapped the engine you have already done this before. If you have a flat bit of concrete you can park on it would make it a little easier to do. Also seeing as your Feroza suspension and tyre wise is similiar to what mine was, shouldn't need to jack it up either.

It's fairly simple to drop the box, not sure what tools you would need to get into the box to change the bearing, but as Simply PV is finding, the biggest problem is reinstalling the box !!

Ya gotta get the perfect alignment.
There is NO secret, just trial and error !!
