Sierra Rear Brakes (Drum) - New Shoes - HD or Regular?

Hey all
I'm up for new rear shoes pretty soon (nearly metal on metal!) and was wondering if 'heavy duty' shoes are worth getting or just stick to a regular replacement?
I've had mixed reactions to running HD front pads in the past - one set of HDs were terrible until you heated them up, and stock were far better, while another was great (still running them).
Being that its my DD and i gear down a lot (not using the brakes heavily) but also chew them out in mud - im a little lost as to what to do =)
Thoughts?
