Hairline crack in gearbox filler plug thread - 80 series

I must have over tightened the filler plug on my 80 series gear box causing a fine crack through the thread. It's enough to cause an oil leak. Previously, I've made a quick fix using a 2 part putty (minute mend or the like) - any other suggestions?

Is the plug cracked or the housing?
Assuming the housing, would a bigger seal maybe cover it up? If not your sealant method maybe your best bet.

It's the housing that is cracked - as I tighten, the crack spreads open. Too big for larger seal...

weld it up, ive had a xcel one welded by a aluminum welder guy do it.
Drain box 1st, so no oil is left and you have a nice clean surface to weld on.

bit hard to weld up if its got oil leaking out through it
your probally going to have to strip the housing to do it properly
and just out of coincidence i have an 80 series 5 speed here for sale

Have repaired one with metal mend, a two part epoxy.
Someone has over tightened the filler plug.
