Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day all, Just recently the 'old girl' (mum) has been commenting on the amount of time she spends at the servo. Don't get me wrong, we're not bitching about the running costs of the cruiser, but just curious if this is the same for everyone?

We have a 100series petrol. (biggest mistake, we regret not getting deisel) But, at the moment the cruiser is averaging 600km from the main and sub tank together. thats for normal driving, not driving hard either. taking it easy.

Does this seem normal, or do we have a slight problem?
Not overly concerned but thoughts, comments would be appreciated.

you need to be a bit more specific with your figures, ie 600km from both tanks doesn't really tell anyone how much fuel you're using. take note of the actual litres and km and then we'll be able to help you. you might also mention whether it's stop/start, short trips, highway, etc driving. you also need to post more vehicle details - is it modified, lifted, bigger wheels, is it a V8 or a 6 cylinder? auto or manual? all of these things impact fuel economy and without knowing them fairly specifically, speculation is fairly pointless - but here goes...

if 'both tanks' means about 120 litres for a fill and the vehicle is a V8 automatic and used mostly for city driving than I reckon your fuel economy is average to good - there's no getting around the fact that it's a 2 ton+ truck with a powerful motor and slushy gearbox and that takes some fuel to keep moving.

if on the other hand it's a stock DX 6 cylinder manual used only on the highway then you should be able to get under 15l/100km and so there is something desperately wrong.
