GQ Factory Rear Locker

Post by maverick01 »

Hi Guys, I have a GQ Wagon with a factory rear locker in it

So while i was out wheeling today and managed to drop the rear diff onto a large rock and it bent the rear locker actuator on teh right hand side of the diff and it wont disengage.

My problem is can i just remove it from the outside or do i need to pull the diff apart to be able to replace it.

Also apart from going through nissan is ther another place i can get a new actuator from.

You have to remove the diff centre to remove the actuator (big ringnut). There are no aftermarket actuators. Your bet bet would be to pull it and see if it can be salvaged. Second best bet would be wreckers.

you can pul the actuator out and fab up a cable type operation, or a simple nut and bolt that you wind in and out to lock/unlock.

i weld guards under and infront of the actuator for this very reason.

thanks guys for the advice and i got a price of a genuine 1 and its around about $770 ex japan and the wait is about 10 days which in other words will be after xmas now.

My other option is get an air locker fitted as i already have 1 in the fron so i dont need a compressor or anything like that.

The air lockers are about $1400 fitted.

Apparently the models with teh factory rear locker run different length axles compared to other models without the locker, Does anyone know whether this rumour is true

Put an arb in it. I spent heaps of time and effort on those pos .End of the day they will always fail and are dear/ hard to get parts for.

yes one of the axles is different but it will work fine with an arb in it or with normal centres, wont work the other way tho ie normal axel in locker centre

Just out of curiosity but will an arb air locker fit in my rear diff even though it has already had a nissan vacuum locker in it.

Only reason i ask is because if it will it will save me from buying another diff complete and plus ARB cant give me a straight answer if it will or not.
