Longfields for 80
I have a axle / cv set of longs in my 80...
I have worn the CV's out due to mud getting into them...
anyway i was under the impression that when u bought the "super set" that they had a different spline count on the cv end of the axel?
I just emailed locktup and they said they dont do a 30 spline for 80's?
So is there only the one set u can get...?
I wanna order new ones but wanna make sure the right ones get here...
So just to confirm u can only get 27 spline for 80's?

Smooth is fast
mate, the longfield 80 series are 24 spline into the CV which is the same as stock and the only ones that Longfield do
for LC 40,60,70 and Hilux you can get either 27 spline (stock) or the upgraded 30 spline.
"Superset" is just what Longfield calls the complete set, eg you can get a 27 spline superset, 30 spline superset or an 80 series superset it has nothing to do with the spline count.

Free wheeling Hubs? your still running them? what brand?
i have broke every brand on the market in the first stage of the comp every time i have ran them.

they were in there a couple of years.. my old housing had something weird going on.. i could never get the swivel hubs to seal properly (could see daylight past the seals) so i just had to clean the mud out every so oftenTheBigBoy wrote:How long did yours last before the mud war out your cv cranky? Id be pissed if I bought a set and they got killed by mud..
Id definately put a freewheeling hub kit on.
But i now have a new housing which seals nicely so i figure its time to get a new set.. they arent broken yet, but they do make a hell of a noise
yer Dave I know that.. thats why i was trying to find out wat the axel count was so i could just replace the cv's..davo250 wrote:cranky you know you can buy just the CV to save money!

i did run the AVM hubs,,.,. actually took me a while to kill em (I killed quiet a few normal cvs *read 10 or more* but the hubs lasted a while....
But im now running the hub gears in a set of lux asian hubs.. been good for a while now..
heard that u should run a solid flange as longs dont like running at highway speeds.. all good if its a trailer toy
They seem fine ? my 80 is 18 years old now and still has the original CV's and its full time 4x4... and i sure do use itJcas24 wrote:can't believe you still have standard cv's, they must have held up well or your a pro at changing them?
TD 80 Series - Custom barwork, E locked, 35" MTR's, Lifted, Fox Shocks. Good times.
i ran std CV's for years on 35's with no problems. but they will break in time. Remember this, do not buy the $80 CV's buy the Jap CV which are $200ish they are as good as std. the cheap ones are made from crap material and they snap the axle off the end and take out the stub axle which in the long run is more expensive anyway.

it's not the high speeds that kills them, it's the high mileage. Chromo wears heaps faster than normal CV's.crankycruiser wrote: heard that u should run a solid flange as longs dont like running at highway speeds.. all good if its a trailer toy
Longfields are still warrantied with his solid flange aren't they?
Spit my last breath
ahh righto.. didnt realise thatbad_religion_au wrote:it's not the high speeds that kills them, it's the high mileage. Chromo wears heaps faster than normal CV's.crankycruiser wrote: heard that u should run a solid flange as longs dont like running at highway speeds.. all good if its a trailer toy

Did you guys find the need to cut down and re machine your long fields by 6mm or so? There ends up being too much play and starts grinding away at your swivel housing etc.
Would help knowing what 80 series model and year you have fitted longs too as well.
Cheers.

u have to trim them down if u are running the early model end plates (pre 95?) or the Asin hubs.. if u are running AVM hubs then u dont need to trim them down, u just need to run the spacer in the hub...rezpkt wrote:Did you guys find the need to cut down and re machine your long fields by 6mm or so?
