Help, 4x4 newbie here, got myself a SWB Paj (BNE)

Hi guys,

My name's Luke, i'm a tyre fitter and car enthusiast from Scarborough on the north side of Brisbane.

I just joined hoping you guys can help me out.

I've been into performance cars for quite some time, and need something that can tow my drag car all the way out to the strip, and always wanted a 4x4 to try a bit of off-roading out.

Now anyways, i do a little cash work in the shed on the sly on weekends to help mates out, and one mate has paid me for fixing up his car by giving me a SWB pajero.

Im yet to tow it home, haha one last borrow of my uncles rangie vogue , but its a import convertible 3L V6. think its a 91 model.

the good:
-Tow ball, (well i do want the thing primarily for towing)
-Bullbar, lots of lights on it too
-Interior is very muddy but complete and should be good after a seriously good clean
Factory rear air locker, ARB front air-locker
4 inches of lift
Big muddies, 33/ 10.5/ r15s from memory two are shot but im a tyre fitter so thats easy
the bad:

-A few small rust spots (im a old corolla nutter so rust is easy for me)
it has a immobiliser that wont turn off, though i have a auto sparky mate who will fix that
-Front left CV is shot. that shouldnt be too hard.
-The soft top is well buggered, i'd really like to be able to keep the rain and stuff out.
-AND the worst of all at some stage it broke the rear uni joint ant the tailshaft end, which snapped the output shaft of the gearbox and shattered most of the rear part of the box (haven't looked yet just what im told) surrounding this part. is it a extension housing and removable/replaceable output shaft or am i up for a new box?

Now can someone tell me where i can get a new tailshaft (or a second handie lol) on the north side of brisbane and where i can get the bits i need to sort the box. Or a whole box if thats needed.

Is there somewhere i can get a new soft top made or buy a new one?

Also being a import its probably gonna be a bitch to buy a manual for, can i get one somewhere, or is there a local model thats 90% the same i can grab a book for?

I gotta get a roady too to get it regoed, anyone in the Redcliffe area that can help me out there??

Hopefully she will be fixed sometime soon so i can get out there on the tracks with some of you guys and learn about this 4x4ing buisness.

sorry for the novel guys but better to have it all in the one post than a million posts one by one about the little things lol.

cheers lads and ladies,

Luke.

G'Day Luke, CVs in those pajeros are relativey cheap and easy to fix as you suspected. Rear housing of gearbox you would be lucky to find, I would replace the whole transfer case especially if the output shaft is cactus. I replaced one a while ago got it from All 4 x 4 wreckers at Minden $300. Complete gearbox and transfer probably about $900. They may have a tailshaft also and are pretty helpful with freighting if needed.

I have a full softtop of a 95 SWB Softtop Pajero in good condition if you are interested. I removed it and fitted a custom cover to mine. I am only 45 mins from Scarborough too, PM me if you want to come and have a look.

I would just get a manual from repco or somewhere for the same year model Australian car, I have messed around with both and they are virtually the same. I have ordered some parts through Mitsubishi for my import softtop using the vehicle identificaton number from my Aust. model hardtop. Most mitsubishi spare parts guys tend to freakout when you tell them its an import and won't help you unless you give them a VIN.
