hey guys, first post.
I've been keen to out the ol' 18rc & 4spd from my 83 RN46 for a while now, and have read a bit of info on this site about a few different swaps.
So i just thought i'd bounce a few ideas of ya's..
Has anyone here seen or done a 5MGE into a gen1 lux? I've heard early lux's have shorter engine bays than later ones and this could pose clearance props... Right?
Either that or a 1GGZE.. but i dunno bout this one. I've read they're no good for a 4x4.
So yeah, any info would be sweet. I'll be doing most of it myself hopefully and would like it to be a relatively cheap swap... but we all know how it ends up
Cheers,
Grom.

I've got a 1g-geu in a 84 surf Ln60 which bolted in place with no problems other than electric fans infront of the radiator (about 20mm clearance between the crank pulley and the radiator), I also lifted the body 45mm to gain access to the top bell housing bolts.
I looked at putting a gen 1 lux single cab body on it but your right they're to short, then I thought about making a skelaton frame and bolting on the Ln60 nose to the gen 1 cab but it was to much work.
Have you thought about using a 3t motor? (1800 Turbo 4 cyl) They're in some celicas, might be abit gutless though. Otherwise you might be able to move the radiator forward somehow.
Let us know how you get on and good luck
PS: Suprasurf is the person to talk to, don't worry when he sees that heading he'll be in touch
One more thing the 1g motors are 6cyl aswell

Never thought about a 3T. Don't know if it's really what i'm after tho.
I Like the figures on the 5M tho, and if i'm correct the GZE's are similar but peak a bit higher..?
Yeah, i was hoping suprasurf might chime in, he seems to know what he's on about.
Maybe someone could give me accurate length measurements on both these donks? Then we'll see what's involved..

have a look at this website
www.supracharged.com Just found it on another forum.
The 1g-geu is 730mm crank pulley to flywheel if thats any help.
The 1g-geu's not a bad motor, I've given mine so much sh
t it is not funny and it still going.
It out at the moment because I'm converting the old jigger to coils

thanks mate.
looks like a 1G will just fit without moving the radiator, so the 5M would no doubt pe a pain to get in.
Just curious, what car did your 1g-geu come outta? What box are you using?

I'm pretty sure that the 5m is the same length.
anyway the 1g-geu was out of a 84 Celica with a w55 gearbox.
the bellhousing off the w55 bolted up to the w56 lux box, no doubt the same bellhousing will bolt up to the 4 spd.
You can use the w55 5spd but will need an adaptor for the transfer case
(Marks adaptors?) .
At least having a petrol motor to start with you should have 4.8 diffs, if thats not enough the early hiaces (the round ones) have 5.29s in them that bolt up to the lux diff housings, axles etc.
1g-geu figures: 168hp @ 6400rpm 24valve t/cam.
I have the wiring diagrams if you need them.
