Turbo Rebuild

Gday,

Took the Paj to Diesel-Tec today to sort out the serious amount of diesel smoke it was producing. They put her on the dyno, gave me a call and apparently the Turbo is ruined along with some other things like a leak in the exhaust manifold, probably injectors and in need of a serious tune up. As im short on cash i said start by looking at the Turbo and manifold, as the rest are just things that will help, rather then major failure. He gave me another call, quoted $2600 for full rebuild, labor, new oil, gaskets etc. I am prepared to pay this, but anyone got any other suggestions? Ive been thinking of maybe selling, but in its current condition it wont fetch much and then i could buy into a lemon. Another option is buying a brand new turbo rather then a rebuild, or a buying a second hand turbo and putting that in. Anyone ever got a turbo rebuild before?

Thomas.

Hi there,

I had a turbo rebuilt a couple of years ago, the main shaft had sheared in two on mine.

It cost me 350 GBP for a full re build. I looked around and found that a used turbo would have cost me two thirds of that and I wouldn't have known its history.

If you're planning on keeping the paj, I would go for a rebuild, unless you can find a good used turbo with a decent history.

Good luck.
