hey guys. iv been offered to swap my shorty patrol for a tj that has a long arm kit.
i do a bit of road driving and was wondering will cops or transport department pick up on it? its got 3.5" lift and 33's so it doesnt look huge.

You might get away with it for while. Possibly longer then you think. If it looks safe and dosent have bits of multicoloured stuff hanging off it that is.
If it has the long arm kit I am pretty sure they have to cut off the old chasie mounts. So returning it back to stock to go over the pits will be a bit harder.
Don't get me wrong the set up sounds great and very capable off road, but everything you mentioned is past legal.

As a reference
235x75x15"(30" tyres are 245x75). are legally as big as you are allowed legally, and they can still do you for uncalabrated speedo!


Legalities aside, tough choice really. Shorty or long arm lifted TJ

Long arm is so much better on road that it's just retarded that Qld DOT don't allow it.

Hi there Wooders, mmmmmm not sure about your state but up here in QUEENSLAND "SUNNY ONE DAY BLOODY RAIN THE OTHER" well apparently it can't be passed with long arms. Maybe you do know the guys at ARB coopers plain brisbane sth, well they had a red TJ with long arm kit that was passed after an engineer's report/ceft !! as i spoke to one of the guys there my self and hopefully he wasn't spinning me a yarn, BUT! unfortunately he had to sell it. ( broke his heart) due to family commitments.

So maybe you should move to BRISBANE!!!

Hey there, rang "HAMMONDS" up and they said no way anyone will get long arm kits DOT approved in QUEENSLAND!!!!! And yes they've fitted them and heaps so they say but can not get it approved even KJ or whatever, and i spoken to a bloke over the phone at ARB COOPERS PLAINS and he reckons that red TJ with long arms was approved but had to be sold, And hammonds said they did most of the work on it!!!!!! Well i'll just stick to my 50mm lift and put a 50mm body lift on it as a 50mm body lift can to a approved in QLD and 50mm suspension is ok too.

If ya know or deal with an engineer, then you might get it engineered, (long arm that is).
But. If the cops send you over the pits they will say no way!

Yes it can be done and yes some places will install it for the right amount of $$$$$$ but it dosent make it legal.

Yes know what you mean! its a petty cause jeeps drive and handle so much better with long arm kits.

mine is registed in qld with long arms.. but only till it gets put over the pits. not approved. no chance in getting it done. got away with it on 35's for 12 months.. but now its past it.

first off the ARB red tj on long arms was registered and engineered in NSW, hammonds didnt work on it at all - all done by ARB as a tax dodge for a company vehicle - no way can you get QLD DOT approved longarms on a cherro in QLD - do it and wait to be defected.

I believe there IS a way to get it approved in QLD - but as I understand it needs to have been approved & engineered in another state.
