Outer Limits 4x4 Board

As of about 12:30 last night the 4.4 is back together and running. (a big thank you to the neighbours for not calling the cops)

Started up beautifully, and we got the cooling system running properly this time. After letting it warm up a bit we took it for a spin around the block. First thing we noticed was that the tacho was not functioning. Got half way around the block and the motor cuts out. Start it up again, fires up no worries and then cuts out again after maybe 10 seconds. Repeat this many times and decide that we have to push the fawker home.

We got too puffed so decided to try starting it again. This time on gas and it started up alright and got us home. It was not running all that smoothly though on the gas. It was getting pretty late so we called it a night by this stage so i haven't got much else to describe yet. Any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Fiddled around with a few things this morning and it hasn't cut out once. It is only running on Petrol ATM, while the gas tank clicks on, the gas isn't flowing through to the motor. I can tell this because when the motor is running and I swap from fuel to gas or vice versa there is no drop in revs or noticable change. Also the tank won't actually click on if i go from fuel to gas.
It runs really well on petrol low down in the rev range, but hesitates a fair bit when i sink the boot in and runs rougher at higher rpms. This had led me to think that something in the fuel injection is not up to scratch (the 3.5 injection system is marginal on the 4.4 at the best of times.)

You are talking like this is a new engine.
It is advisable not to run new engines on gas for 1000 to 1500ks as they can glaze the bore and not bed in.

Yeah, I am aware of not running it in on gas. I actually just got the gas hooked up yesterday and have run it on gas for about a minute at most just to see how well it pulls (like a schoolboy ).
I will continue to run it on Petrol for the next 1000kms though.

I've never heard of this before ?

Surely if you use, say a moly ring, load the thing up big time up the nearest big hill after running in the cam to seat the rings, then drive it normally for 1500km, why would it glaze the bores ??

One reason ,which is also the reason for long engine life on gas is the lack of Bore Wash ,as the is no liquid in the upper cylinder to remove the oil splashed on the bores.
I have stripped Taxi's with 200 ks on them and still found hone marks on the bores.
