bit hard to trailer a 3 tonne tourer around with the wifes hyundai

Nup, have to drive mine there and back, with esky, water tank and camping gear etc. So what if my rig won't drive a occasional track 4hours away from home. I don't really see the point in lugging another 3 tonne of steel all that way for a couple of tracks.
It's more a challenge this way, making a 4wd that's a daily driver, gymkana machine, hillclimber, long distance road/offroad tourer, weekend furniture mover, work hack, beach fishing rig, mud slogger, whatever, it's all a compromise of course, but not everybody has the cash for a dedicated vehicle.
Tube buggy may be fun but you can't take it on a 4week 3000km trip to Cape York or drive it to work. Once you lose rego, you might as well go straight to catipillar tracks. The best thing about 4wd's is their multipurpose ability, other wise might as well own a sedan.
