Marks Adapters t'case hand/parking brake

Anyone have this setup? The good, the bad, and the ugly?

It looks like the OEM/Toyota split case setup. Marks claims it isn't.

Alot of our older 0z cruisers run this setup, and when they worked, they worked well, but get an oil seal weeping on the back of the transfer, and the handbrake would stick or not work at all.
If u want to run a disc rear end, the other option is Subaru 4wd front callipers (with handbrake built in) on minitruck solid front discs on rear hubs with minitruck front studs.
Check out
www.ebay.com.au and put in Landcruiser on the search function and you will come accross some 40 series handbrake bits. Might be able to pack and send them normal parcel post to you?

I'm actually wanting to go with either the Marks kit or the OEM setup. I'm going use a front 60 series disks in the back. I have a FF rear BTW. I'm even contemplating using the complete front hub/rotor setup in the back. No need to get the rear hub or rotor machined. Although I'll need some custom double spline rear inner axles. I'm going to need some anyway cause I'm planning on widening my 60 series axles. Probably go with 4340 chromos or maybe even bling, bling 300M.

damn I got a split case disc brake I can sell $300, comes with brand new cable, and all the parts you need. (used kit though) but in perfect condition.

The Marks system uses a custom drum to allow for the shorter output shaft. Dont have to strip down transfer to fit set up. I believe all the other parts a similar of copies of the OEM parts

you will probably also need to have custom stubs constructed, pretty sure the bearing spacing is different front/rear.
far easier to use 80 series or (GQ/GU patrol) rear disks, available brand new third party for about $100 a side, bolt on. all you need to do then is manufacture brackets for your calipers. you will have severe brake porportioning problems if you use the 60 series calipers front and rear, even with a proportioning valve, better to find a dedicated rear caliper with integral handbrake (there are lots of ford, chevy, and japanese eg subaru that will fit the bill)
I'm not saying what you are proposing is impossible but it will be difficult and expensive - and as soon as you introduce custom elements like double spline rear axle shafts, trail fixes are a nightmare.
as for birfs in the rear/4 wheel steer, why not? if you set up the rear to steer to only say 30% of maximum angle, they should stand up to the punishment. they only break when overloaded and at full steer, ie if you drive like an idiot.

The problem with 80 series brakes is the bolt patterns are different. I would need 80 series ends or make an adapter. Also, 80 series rear calipers are the floating type along with all the calipers with integral hand brake. I deal with a lot of mud up here in Alaska. When floating calipers get goggled with mud, they don't perform very well. I was also planning on using either a 80 series master or a T100 master cylinder to help with the proportioning.
Now, another reason for custom shafts is that I'm planning on widening my axles. Mostly for more stability. I also have cable lockers and the right mechanism interferes with the shock mount. I'm planning on doing a SOA, so shock fitment is going to be a issue. So, I'm wanting to make the rear more centered to give room between the spring perch and the locker mechanism. I'm hoping that if I go with 4340 or even 300M, axle breakage will be a none issue.
Rear steer would be sweet. Just not in any immediate future plans. Would need to come up with a full hydro for the rear axle.

$300 AU of course. We are mostly simple aussies out here.
Will post anywhere in aus for that $$. The handbrake cable is to suit the FJ/BJ40/42/45/47 that had the floor mounted handbrake just like the HJ/FJ60, so I think the handbrake might tie in aswell. The caliper is something called a braveheart, it came from your side of the pond, all the way out here.
Here is some pics, I can get you dimensions if you want to make your own kit.

the two calipers is cause my brother got one, and his needed to be on the left cause of the crossmember (5 speed) my 4 speed i could put it anywhere, we were sorta testing out two calipers, it seemed no more efficient, but the kit im selling only has one caliper.
