Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all, i am sure this is on here somewhere but cant find anything on it.

I need some urgent help on a 1993 80 series GXL.
I am in the process of replacing the stereo with a kenwood 1-din unit and have just taken the old toyota one out. Now there is 2 pin plugs and what looks like a separate power lead.

Why is there 2 pin plugs?? the new head unit only has one with the kenwood unit plug on one end then just blank wires on the other which i have the diagram for. So can i just use one of the toyota plugs or what is the go there?

any help would be much appreciated!!!

The easy way is to get a premade adapter for the toyota to that specific kenwood plug. The place you bought it from would likely have one. If not supercheap have them.

You have to get the small toyota plugs, as there are small and large ones. (same plug fits nearly every toyota made)

the third tiny lead is for the dorky toyota subwoofa in the back. You can't really plug that in anywhere.

Ok thanks heaps that help explain all the wires in the plugs if i cant get my hands on a lead tomoz. and thanks for explaining what that little lead is haha so that is another reason why that sub is so shit, the wiring is TINY just out of curiosity seeing as there is a sub and little leads there, do u reckon it would be worth joining on 2 RCA plugs on to that lead and into the head unit haha wonder if it would work any better from the new head unit??

Short answer no.

the rca outs are 'line level' which is basically 'very soft sound' no where near enough to make the subwoofa work. even the tiny toyota one.

You could however wire that subwoofer into any of the other speaker outputs (front right, left rear right left) and it would work. Probably not very well though.

hey i have a 93 landcruiser as well. not sure of model, was wondering where abouts these subs were placed as mine already had stereo replaced when i brought it

right hand rear of boot there is a little speaker cover in the side trim if u have it

Don't bother with the factory sub, it makes a great spot for a HUGE Amp!

In the front doors, there are cutouts for 6" speakers if you can get ones that are shallow and the grills have to be thin to clear the dash when you close the doors. If you can put some sound deadening stuff on the inside of the door panel at the same time, its well worth the trouble.

The rear door can also fit a 6" speaker if you make a ring spacer out of MDF, I think mine is 16mm. All this will sound pretty good, but if you add a 12" sub even better. The drivers side rear area can easily fit one big amp for the sub and a small one above the wheelarch for the fronts (if you like).
