18r - body lift - bigfeet - dual transfer cases - lockers = Bound to be able to climb something.

adrain use to run a 3y, 38.5 and twin transfers, cant see there will be a problem but it is all in the gearing.
there also seems to be turbos and superchargers available for them regularly

You will drive 35`s with standard gearing and the carbies are ok on angles to.
Things to look for Are the things you are going to use and If somthing is damaged and your going to replace it anyway you can use that to get a cheaper price

you could but i dont think you would want to, most of them are only 4 speed which doesnt really help either.

Ok well that seems good!
What about engine wise has the 18R got any bad habbits like blowing heads, eating oil, ect? any thing I should look out for>
Drivline and suspension anything dodgy????
What do you guys reckon I should pay for a 1981-82 Hilux well body?

Boat anchor..
I bought an 83 6 months ago, 18RC and 4sp with 198k's for 2600. Motors are built well, go for ages but yeah they're a little gutless. Since getting my i've fitted new springs, rancho's and 33's. Still goes ok but use lo-range heaps more..
If ya want it for wheelin' then definately go for dual transfers or do what i'm doing and turf somethin in with a bit more poke...

I flogged the guts out off mine and it rattled and burnt oil about a quick as it burnt petrol but ill give it one thing it never broke down on me.I put a new timing chain in it and new rings and done the head up after that it ran perfect still bloody gutless tho even in low range it got a bit scary on some steeper hills as it ran out off power. I wouldnt go any bigger then 31" tyres any bigger and you will never move.Still there a fairly tuff old thing just dont be in any hurry to get any where.

I have an 81 hilux panel van. 18RG mtr, twin o/h cam with twin carbs and 4 speed. I thit the wall at 115kms but off road i keep up with tj wranglers. With some adustisting of the shock mounts i can ramp 1240mm.
I only payed $700 then $400 FOR RIMS AND TYRES (AT'S ) . I have a ball in it and its cheap.
If i give it rock rash or ding it (which i have ) it doesnt matter. Its slow , drinks a bit but it is good fun!
