Looking at a 4" lift, 35s and supercharging my nissan, who would be the engineers of choice in WA to talk with and do I actually need engineering certification for the supercharger - on a diesel. Post replies etc but will not be able to view for a week or so as I am out of town.
Cheers

Not a Drama - I am still getting all the stuff together and do not have time atm but when I start installing I will detail it all in the members section. Currently costs are about $500, will prob only cost another $200-300 for machining etc  so is looking good.

Do you know you need an engineer? Usually the best way to deal with this in Perth is to submit a modification request form and then the tech department will either give the go ahead or demand you see an engineer. You will be amazed at what will pass without requiring an engineer. The WA system is a little different from other states were you have to see an engineer full stup. Of course getting an engineer from day one will help, but I don't think its always necessary.

I managed to stuff a 351 Cleveland into an early Capri a few years ago and didn't need an engineer :P I think it depends on how much info you can give.

Don't quote me on this stuff since the system has changed over the last couple of years, but last time I checked this was the go.

Dont no if its true but I was told that Opposite Lock change out the shocks on that car and put in ones that had nearly no travel so the vehicle couldnt tilt anyhow as it had no suspension travel at all they also run sway bars for the test then remove them after .Dont no anyone yet who has gone through this since the rules changed cost could be expensive as you have to hire a driver with a cams licence to drive your car then maybe an engineer also pay for the guy from the cops to come along also hire out the venue for the test was told it had to be Kwinana drag strip all up a mate with a lux on 37s said he looked into it and thought about $2000 to try and get it licenced properly.Al this is hear say so may not be true me im just running my car and making it look not to huge

In WA you need to get aproval first before you undertake the mod. Any suspension over 2" is illegal in WA, unless you do a lane change test. I think mods are getting harder to get legal in WA.

I have my v8 conversion and body lift approved back in 1996. When cops approved these mods I had 4-5" lift running 35" tyres. This was no problems going over the pits. I recently rang the technical section in WA and becuase of the new laws my 4x4 is now illegal. They said back in 1996 it was ok to have these mods and it did not need to be noted on the modification forms. As they said "the goal posts have changed" , if I get caught I will get a yellow and to get it passed I will need to do a lane change test.

I have currently taken my 4x4 off the road and when I come back from holidays I will look at my options as to licencing. Or I might build a unregistered 4x4 ???

check out this thread http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8096&highlight=perth+engineer

Also have a look here http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/myvehicle/safe/modifications/index.html

From this web site it states - You must make a written vehicle modification submission to gain approval for these types of modifications - This link is a PDF document that you use to make the submission http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/forms/vehmodapp.pdf

well,

going by that list on the link, i am absolutely farked. i've managed to void just bout every item on that list. oh well i might have to ring my mate 2morra and see what he can do for me.

ausyota, why do you want to muck around with putting solid in the front of that one????? wouldn't it be easier to transfer every thing onto a solid front chassis??? know where ther is one if you are interested!!!

cheers

matt.

I had thought of that too but.
I like my extra cab and they dont come solid.
I had thought of swapping the cab onto a SA chasi but...
I would want crossover steer wich would mean custom mounting an IFS steer box and a dropped front spring hanger.
I would want to run shock hoops for longer shocks.
and on top of that I would have to shift around some cab mounts on the chasi.
So the only extra work I gotta do is just hack off the IFS I would have been doing all the other stuff anyway.

OK sounds as if I should fill out the paper work for the transport dept and go from there. One of my mates is talking to the boys in Balcata as he has two vehicles to go through the swerve test - cost is $650 apparently. Will see how it all goes
