Hi All
I have a 413 SWB at the moment with 31s 2 inch springs and rockhopper kit and a lockrite.
Getting a long wheelbase here in NZ is not that easy so whats the thoughts on building a 4 door Vit,cutting to a double or extra cab(easy to get to recovery gear on tray back or well side)adding a wide track diff up front.
I wont the advantage of the extra lenght for stability and carrying capacity.
The only major change would be the front diff(reliability)the Vit already has power steering/1600 motor etc.
Opinions
Cheers Simon

the sierra diff isn't very strong imho
do the comps have restrictions on solid axle swaps?

No
Looking to the future,Dennys Winch Challenge(NZ) or Outback challenge type of rules where wheel base carn't be alted.
What diff would you use???

to be honest, i'd keep the sierra for fun driving. if you want to compete in winch challenges and OBC - get a rangie or a gq patrol.

some of us extend our swb sierras by 3" on front chassis, and fitment of rear springs up front (longer travel), and a few inches on the back, with moving of the rear springs back, and a spacer in the tail shaft..sort of a mid wheel base.(best of both) others use longer, hilux, springs that move the diffs back/forward.. christover

I'm not a fan of large 4bies and the rules they have on the net for the OBC state that wheelbase is not to be alted as do the NZ winch challenge rules.
Would Like to have both but that would be cause conflict in Love interests
I'm thinking of this now before I dive in and put a 1600/power steering/front locker/tray back it/rear disc conversion/long range fuel tank and maybe a auto behind the 1600 with the Vit diff in rear and wide track up front/then the rear mounted winch etc etc etc
I would only have to do half of this on the Vit to get it to the same stage

i've copy and pasted this from your other thread, but i doubt you'll fit any bigger than 33's unless you can move the front axle forward, which you've said that ya wont be able to
i'd use toyota hilux axles over the zuk stuff, cause you'll end up breaking the wide track front. hiace centres fit the axles and give ya a diff ratio of 5.29 compared to 5.12 standard.
with a sas ya should be able to get 35's under it easy, i've got 32's on mine with just a 2in suspension and 2in bodylift
depends what sorta comp work ya wanna do, but the rockhopper only gives a low range reduction, and if ya running anything bigger than 31's you'll really want some sort of high range reduction as well. you'll get a little bit of this from the diffs, but swapping in a rockhoppered sierra box could be the go.

well if that's what you want, then i say go for it. it will be pretty cool.

Dual transfer cases and Hilux axles. Gearing in high range should be good with 35"s and Sierra second transfer case.
Hilux or Bundera axles with 4.88 R&P or a composite Vitara front axle like was used in the aztec should do it.
Only put the rockhopper in the Vitara case so you have the choice of a 2:3:1 High low, or a 5:6:1 Low High or a 9:1 low low range.
Lots of flexibility there.

Hi All
Thanks antt having trouble beating things into my computer/sorry about double post
These ideas are all adding to the good ideas already gained on the forum
Over here there area couple of zuks competinga Vit shorty 31s/32s and Sammy/Sierra on the same, the Sammy has done very well at the NZ winch challenge.
So thinking that 31s/32s would be good, this would mean using Vit gear down kit for simpicity, also not alot of engine mods needed to drive the Vit along.
Mind you double gear down does sound good, the series one in the 413 has made a big difference

Got any more details as to what is the final configuration? Gearing, t-case, auto, adapters, suspension etc? Any pics of the install?
