Hi Mate,

We work on a few TB48 Patrols that are on gas. Have done heads on them at as low as 150,000kms. If you want to put yours on gas the best system is vapour or liquid gas injection. There isn't any real drop in power or not enough to really notice. It eliminates the usual problems of back firing out the exhaust on decel if it has a sports system. The main thing with any TB48 Patrol on gas is have the buckets and shims done when put on gas and every 40,000kms after that. Vapour injection is cheaper than liquid gas injection and it works great on the TB48. It is worth spending the extra over standard impco and gas ring system. I would also fit a lub saver kit. Vapour Injection on a Patrol is normally upto $5000 before rebate. Hope this was some help.

Hi, thank you for your info, yeah i dont know much about gas on vehicles, i got a quote the other day and came to 4900 but i'm not sure if that was this vapour injection or liquid, and the rebate i was told was only 1800 i thought it was alot more than that, mine does backfire a bit, going to get a few more quotes and make our minds up what we want to do with it, wheather keep it or sell it,should just bite the bullet and get gas and keep it, thanks for your help, much appreciated

if you do a search there are a few posts I have done in regards to gas. Also if your car is back firing on petrol you have a problem dude, I would get your injectors checked, I would also check your cat convertor in the exhaust as they have been prone to just crack up and block the system up. also the air cleaner may need a blow out. You realy should only get back firing when LPG has been installed, usually the vapour system will be nore prone to back firing, mine was very bad!!! untill the processor was changed.

when is the last time you ave checked the tappets, as been noted before, tappets do require an adjustment every 100k, a dealer will need to do this as there are some special tools required and they will need to order the correct shim as req.

Hi Mate, thanks for info, yeah car always gets serviced, air cleaners is always gettin cleaned, it sort of only backfires when I deaccelerate up in the higher revs which is normal sometimes i thought, yeah a few ppl have said they backfire on that vapour gas, If the cat converter was stuffed this could be contributing to the poor fuel economy I'm getting, but i cant hear anythin rattling in the exhaust, motor has got just over 200000ks i prob should get these tappets looked at, i'm just sick of spending money on it,just guna sell it and go back to the 4.2 td,thanks for the help mate, cheers
